Believing is Seeing

A couple of weeks ago I stood before the church and declared that my New Year's resolution was to really understand one piece of scripture...actually just one verse...Philippians 4:8

            "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about these things."

I guess I am a really visual person.  Everytime I read this, I get an image of butterflies and babies.  My mind flashes pictures of smiling graduates and cascading waterfalls.  And after the slide show in my brain ends, I think of God.  For me "Seeing is Believing".  Maybe I am not that far off.  Look around!  God has revealed Himself in His creation.  I feel ok about all of this.  I feel good about repeating the old phrase "Seeing is Believing"....that is until I read the Gospel of John where the phrase should read, "Believing is Seeing"!  So that will be my first stop on the road to understanding Phillipians 4:8.

When was the last time you read through John?  I have read bits and pieces in the last year, but I am going to read it from start to finish over the next month and I hope you will join me in this mini Bible study!

Read John 1:1-18 and consider the following....

In John 1:14 it says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."  What does this mean to you?  What does God want you to know about his character from this passage?

Our God walked among us and people believed.  As we will discover, some believed with their eyes and some believed with their hearts.
